With the festive season upon us and opportunities for birding diminished It was time to literally appreciate what is available on the doorstep. With the Big Garden Birdwatch fast approaching it was time to get out the new Christmas photographic hardware and see what it could do in poor light conditions. First to the table (peanut feeder and fatballs) were the ever always acrobatic long tailed tits. They whirled through the local trees a couple of times before coming in to feed in the garden but then they were everywhere.
Long -tailed tit hanging by one leg and eating a piece of peanut. Please don’t try that at home
Next to the garden was the regular visitor and songster who whilst waiting for some decent snow so he could do the full picture postcard image was still prepared to pose for the camera in the record breaking mild temperatures we are having.
Indecisive robin (sitting on the fence).
Next hot on the coat tails of his long tailed creature kind was the jewel that is the blue tit. I have seen some fantastic sharp pictures of these recently which I have struggled to reproduce, however once these birds are picked out with a zoom lens amongst the shrubbery they cannot fail to impress regardless of the less than perfect picture.
With only two days to go and limited photographic and posting opportunities available I will take this chance to with all my regular readers a very Happy New Year.
